Oh no not another electric vehicle post. Sorry, not sorry but with this extreme push for battery electric vehicles or BEVs I have to show the negative sides of them and why its best to wait around for hydrogen fuel cells.

 

1. Limited range

Batteries can only store so much energy and even with the advances the more range you’re looking for the more expensive they’ll be. A Tesla model 3 costs around $40k when you factor taxes, charging equipment and hire an electrician to get the most out of recharging. But let’s face it, for $20k I can get more range out of a muscle car.


2. Recharging time

Even though you may charge at home and ‘wake up every morning with a full tank’ it still takes time to charge and our electric grid is unreliable at best. You will be waking up one day without power and your 220 mile Tesla is now a 50 mile range vehicle with no place to charge because well.. no power. Most gas stations will have a backup generator allowing motorists to continue driving around. But you are stuck with a 50 mile driving range. Doesnt work if you daily drive more than 20 miles, even if you do manage to make it into work you will still need a recharge. Imagine having to wait hours and hours in a public charging station because everyone else who owns a Tesla or other EV will be waiting in line because they lost power. Either that or they traveled too far and need a recharge. A minimum  of 30 minutes for an EV or a 5 minute refueling time for gasoline those who drive gas will not generally be affected by power loss, unless the gas station you went to doesnt have a backup generator… it’s best to ask.

 

3. Range is limited in the cold

My friend had a Tesla with a 300 mile range. When it was 20F he woke up to a half charge with a range of 100 miles. He thought well, I only work 20 miles away it’ll be fine. It was fine driving into work but upon driving home from work he got about 5 miles before the Tesla quit on him. He got rid of it and bought a Honda. 🤣😂

The cold is bad on lithium ion batteries. They don’t like the heat and they certainly dont like the cold. Adverse temperatures is bad for any battery, this is why you need to have your gas vehicle battery checked out every year, especially at winter time they can be an issue, in very cold weather. Stop and go driving is generally harder on them but using a battery electric car on the highway, that range doesnt come back because the car is doing everything it can to generate heat, however driving 60+ mph it takes longer for it to heat up so that heat is often wasted by that cold wind.

Gas cars are not impervious to cold weather either but well maintained gas vehicles will operate better in cold climates. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are the best in cold weather. Another reason why we need more of these vehicles.

 

4. The electric grid won’t handle a BEV takeover

You know I read in the Chicago Tribune that best charging times will be after 2:00A.M. I leave for work by 3:30A.M. there is no way it’ll finish charging by the time I have to leave for work. Even then this is another inconvenience, you gotta charge on their rules, not when it’s convenient for you. Not everyone has the same routines and here again, the recharge time and power reliability. You can gas up your vehicle any time you need to but charging is different. Sure you can charge anytime you want, but you won’t get the best rates. And when this happens rates for electricity will still go up when too many are plugging in. We bought energy efficient appliances because we wanted to save money on electricity but not only that its because the grid is taxed by energy draining devices.

 

5. Lithium ion materials are not easy to get

Even with all these BEVs coming out, there is a lithium ion supply shortage. We dont have a reliable supply, like gas it’s a finite resource. And when resources become scarce the prices go up. If you need a replacement battery and you sold your gas clunker for a shiny EV but the battery died, well who’s to say they’ll have a replacement on standby for you. If all their loaner vehicles are in use, you may be stuck paying for a $35 daily rental for however long. Could be a week or it could be months. In reality, you’re better off sticking to a gas vehicle. You may need a replacement engine or transmission which isnt that common, at least they have the parts needed to get you back on the road as quickly as possible. May take a few days to a week but that’s nothing compared to how long people had to wait for a replacement Tesla part.

 

6. How long will that battery last? The cost of owning a BEV

I don’t know. Often times they’ll say it’ll get 300k easy but when gas vehicles get that much and more you want to think more in terms of, how many years will the batteries last. Currently you can get 30+ years out of a Honda or Toyota.. basically any well built vehicle will last you if you keep up on the preventative maintenance. Regular oil and other fluid changes are needed for your vehicle’s survival. Fresh fluids equals a happy vehicle that will take care of your transportation needs but also regular checkups and taking it easy on the gas when you dont really need all that horsepower going. Leave it for the highway ramps.

Anyways the only real ways to treat a battery right on these EVs is charge it only to 80% and leave 30% left. Not exactly leaving you with much range there, along with the cold you’re just not going anywhere fast. Ideally you want a garage but if you park on the street or in an apartment complex that just isnt possible. The same with being at work, you have to leave the vehicle outside. Adverse weather will degrade the batteries. I can’t even keep all my cars in a garage. Let alone they are parked outside at work for 10 hours. BEVs just wouldn’t work.

But at the most I’ve seen a battery last is 10 years. But most of them last 3-7 years depending on various reasons I wont get into but somehow EVs could top all those batteries? The cost alone wouldn’t be worth it seeing as it would take in my case, 10 years before seeing savings from driving a BEV.

Even if the batteries were to die in 12 years or so, it’s still not worth it. Batteries are another environmental concern and the fact that eventually we will have to dispose of them. Regardless if there was a 2nd application for them. What happens when they are no longer usable?

I dont know either but the oldest BEV battery I know of is at least 8 years old. It’s only a matter of time before we find out the cutoff point and I’m not willing to risk a battery dying 8 years down the road and your warranty has expired. Non Tesla batteries are more prone to failure but eventually even Tesla batteries will drop like an anchor. Right now its the tipping point for these batteries. Will they last longer than 10 years or will they all start to die out after the warranty has ended. This will definitely create major problems for anyone who owns a BEV.

By the time these batteries start to fizzle out, hydrogen should be around the corner. There are hybrids as well but the batteries don’t really last in those vehicles and it’s a gamble whether the vehicle will function adequately when the battery no longer holds a charge. In my opinion buy a Honda or Toyota if you want to spend the least amount of money. Those vehicles last forever and get pretty good gas mileage. Wait for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and ignore the BEV evangelists. They really are not helping and neither is the government that is trying very hard to get people to buy an expensive piece of battery powered machinery with no telling how long they’ll last. They very well could end up being a financial nightmare for the owners if that battery one day will just quit. And that will happen eventually.

Hydrogen fuel cell technology has dropped (or will drop) in price making it much better to succeed. Ok first off, I’m not trying to say that electric isn’t the future with vehicles, nor am I saying we should stick with gas vehicles indefinitely. I would like a cleaner vehicle but battery powered.. not so much. Now that’s out of the way hydrogen fuel cells are similar to gas in the range and refueling (only takes 5 minutes to refuel a hydrogen vehicle) without the adverse affects of lost range especially in the cold.

Battery electric has an issue with the  cold and they lose up to 50% of the capacity. Doesnt help when range is only around 220 miles or less. The more expensive models get up to 325 miles. Sure you can charge in 30 minutes or so but you’ll be waiting awhile for it to finish charging. It doesnt do well when there are other people waiting in line.

The fact is, battery electric vehicles are not ready yet, no matter what people are saying. You have to make changes in order to make them work. In today’s society where everyone is already in a rush waiting for your vehicle to charge is going to make things worse. Even if you charge at home the limited range will eventually catch up and you’ll realize that 200 mile range wont be enough. Again some people are willing to sacrifice their time to do this others won’t.

The other problem is the battery lifespan. If you can get 20 or more years out of a gasoline vehicle (especially the way prices are for new vehicles its the best option) then you’d get your money’s worth provided you kept up on the preventative maintenance and did not have so many problems with the vehicle during its use. Most cars need constant attention and having a mechanic look it over every 3 months is ideal. You would have to check the fluids once a month including watching for leaks. By the time you start saving money on an EV chances are that EV may be 8-10 years old already. Not exactly saving any money here if you are having to replace the battery.

There isnt any evidence yet suggesting that EV batteries will last for more than 10 years because they haven’t been around for very long. It’s really a gamble seeing the average lifespan of a battery. The average gas car lifespan is around 11 years but they would last longer if people just changed the fluids on time. You can make a gas car last 20 years or longer. The only thing is rust. You have to make sure to rust proof them. Wash and wax them, use the undercarriage spray and also check out autobody shops and see what they offer for rust proofing. The one I take it to you end up having to replace every 2-4 years because its Fluid Film that either dissolves over time or over the salt or water. And it costs $200-400 depending on the vehicle.

I’m getting off topic here but you get the general idea here. The same rustproofing methods could be applied to an electric car but again how long will the batteries last. This is why BEVs should stay in the niche market until tests have been verified on how long do battery EVs last. They can cost anywhere from $5k to $17k. The cheaper ones may not last very long and you’ll have to do the math to see when you start saving money. Also electric rates are not fixed so they can go up as well. The last thing we need is to pay more to run our appliances. We bought energy saving appliances not only to pay less each month but because our electric grid can’t handle a whole lot.

This is probably my 5th or 6th post on BEVs and while they are pretty much anti electric they are just not there yet with the technology yet. It is far better to wait for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as they’ll be far better in the long run. Fast refueling, long range similar to gas and no loss of range or major problems in the cold. The argument of you dont need long range, and you’ll charge at home is just not sound arguments when eventually you’ll have to use a charging station and it could be packed where you’ll be waiting longer for a charge than you will at a gas station.

If you still want a BEV that’s fine but dont let anyone tell you, you should buy them because of low cost or that they are better for the environment because your just moving the tailpipe emissions to somewhere else. Our infrastructure isnt at all green and it wont happen overnight. Really environmentalists should focus on getting our oceans and water sources clean. Not worry over what kind of cars people drive because gas vehicles are more efficient and clean than ever before. Let’s wait for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to work their magic. We may see them in a couple of decades. Even if naysayers think HFC isn’t, they are coming sooner than you think.

Unless you haven’t been paying attention, climate change hysteria fueled by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Greta Thunberg along with politicians across the world has been freaking some people out over climate change fears, like if we don’t stop burning fossil fuels we’ll be on fire, or under an ocean… or California will end up in an ice age. One of the biggest things right now is that internal combustion engine vehicles that run on gas and coal is under fire right now for existing.

The problem is, there is no climate crisis caused by vehicle emissions. Climate change has been happening since the dawn of time and continues to change. Droughts, forest fires and temperature changes isn’t something new, nor caused by vehicle emissions. Its nature.

Nature also corrects human mistakes, such as the fires in Australia which was man made and since a lot of animals were killed in the fire and some of the forest has been lost a huge rain bomb occurred. The planet corrected itself by making it rain. Arsonists was to blame for the fires, it didn’t help that the forest was dry enough for the fires to get out of control. The planet is fine, it’s the people we need to worry about because right now people have schemed up this idea that we are causing all the bad weather in the world and we need to switch to cleaner energy and abandon our use of fossil fuels. The problem is, everything uses fossil fuels. So switching to electric vehicles is like a drop in the ocean compared to the mass amount of production around the world. It doesnt do anything when coal is worse but coal plants do burn cleaner than they did when they first were around.

The biggest push is electric vehicles right now. Major manufacturers are starting to build them however a lack of materials for the batteries isnt making mass production possible. The long recharge times and lack of range especially in the cold are 2 major problems of EVs and even then the longevity of the batteries and electric motors is another story as they’re expensive to replace. It’s not cheap to replace a gas engine or transmission either but sometimes its cheaper to repair them. Repairing a blown head gasket vs an engine rebuild is a no brainer. Just got to have around $1,000 to make that happen vs a $4,000 engine rebuild. But electric car motors run about $3,000 per wheel and EV batteries are higher than $5,000. It makes no sense to invest in electric cars. Especially since the batteries are holding these cars from getting more mainstream. People talk about them but most don’t want one. Hydrogen is another energy but so far its supposedly inefficient, but would be far better than gas and with some modifications hydrogen could be used in current gasoline vehicles, making it a much more practical use of our technology. EVs are a stop gap and its most likely they won’t be around for much longer when the amount of EVs being sold is dwarfed by gasoline vehicles. While some countries are getting mostly EVs those are smaller countries.. even California has a small amount of EV market share. They want to ban gasoline vehicles but its unlikely in the event many people will be upset and the ban may never take hold. Not to mention bigger cars can’t handle range as good and towing reduces the charge level to about 30 minutes. Doubtful we’ll see many electric trucks in the future even though they’re trying to make them, they just won’t be practical for towing.

So bottom line is gas is here to stay for awhile at least until 2040 when they try to ban gasoline vehicles and may succeed if EVs get their way and have better range and short recharge times. Then theres the longevity factor. I would recommend sticking with gas or at the very least a hybrid. At least you can save some money on gas and not have to worry about polluting as much. Even Dodge is trying an electric torque assist to reduce gas consumption. Don’t buy into this EV insanity because it most likely won’t happen for quite a while at least.

Optimists have been wrong about EV adoption as predictions have been set too high. EV sales only account for around 1% in the U.S. and majority of it is Tesla model 3 in California. After seeing the 5 hour Tesla pileup at a supercharger station I’m sure a few of the owners have gotten rid of them. Of course some of them are loyal to a fault and this isn’t really good especially when EVs have a set of problems.

In Chicago there are a couple charging outlets for apartment dwellers but having 2 outlets is not good for those who want to wake up to a full charge and since some of them have time limits its going to be difficult for those who may be on vacation and want to come back to a full charge. It may be difficult for those who are thinking of buying one and worry about having access to them. Then there is the cost to install a charger for these EVs. It affects rent and will bring the rent fee up. That depends whether it effects all the residents or those who only choose to buy one, however I would be looking for an apartment that doesn’t have this extra cost as others will because who wants to pay more for rent for stuff they wont ever use.

So despite there could be a charger for an EV at one apartment, if you decide to move you may not get the ability to charge and will end up going back to gas.

And if it was as easy to have an outlet more apartments would include them for engine block heaters or battery chargers for gasoline vehicles. In my experience though, the 10 or so apartments I’ve lived at didn’t have outlets for cars. Neither I saw the 20 or 30 either. Living in the Midwest having an engine block heater would be nice and again, car companies would have made these engine block heaters standard so the vehicles are already ready to go with the cabin heater pumping out heat within a minute. But this never happened. Its only if you have access to a plug is where you are able to ask for an engine block heater and again most vehicles I seen dont have them. Its always been an option most likely an aftermarket piece that was probably more for diesel engines than gasoline. If you see a plug like an extension cord sticking out the front grill, that’s generally for an engine block heater that’s just sitting there.

So with this in mind, no.. power outlets won’t be in every parking space, nor will they exist in many apartment/condos or for street parking. Even if one apartment does add more charging spots, its only if the demand is there. It’s unlikely that will happen seeing as many will continue buying gas vehicles.

The argument is, gasoline vehicles ran into the same problems. Not enough gas stations. People didnt change over from horse and carriage overnight. Even then you just drove where there was a gas station. It was also easy to build gas stations as well due to the vast amount of places to put them. And if you needed to go somewhere where there wasn’t a gas station you took a horse. And who knows, the range on the early cars could have been all you needed. Driving more than 20 miles in may have seemed silly back then. Now people go over 500 miles on a trip. But the transition from gas to electric may take far longer or it may not happen at all. Its dependent on every parking space at home to have a charging outlet and that’s unlikely, especially when someone can come along and unplug it while you are trying to wake up to a full charge, people will do something like this and cause mayhem for many motorists. Charging an EV can take over 30 minutes and wouldn’t work when the convenience of having a 5 minute refuel time on a gas vehicle. So even if there was charging outlets at home it would still make sense to have faster recharge times which would reduce the lifespan of the batteries. Cold climates is another problem as you lose 40% of your charge due to heating the cabin and keeping the battery warm. This also doesnt work for apartment renters. Those 2 outlets will be a fight if 3 or more people want to keep their batteries charging overnight forcing the landlord to consider adding more charging stations driving up renting even higher depending on whether they make all residents pay or just the EV owners. In turn I recommend people who are looking for apartments to avoid the apartments that have charging stations as they might be paying more rent for something they’ll never use.

2019 had very lacking EV sales. There are claims that pre orders for the new Tesla truck and other EVs in the works are selling out. Seems like a selling point to me as car companies can boast about preorder sales when the product hasn’t even been completed as the sale has not been completed. That 50k or so pre orders can end up as 5k. Or it can be 100k. Pre orders is not actual sales.

Also looking at actual used EV inventories most used EVs are either EVs from 2012 or the used Teslas that is still $50k too high. Seeing how its mostly Teslas out on the road, eventually those high resale values is going to drop like a bowling ball. So while city mandates could force apartment owners to install charging outlets the demand may remain small as you can move to another city that doesnt have charging outlets available. In effect people will not gamble they will have the ability to charge everywhere. No matter what some EV enthusiasts say, there isnt charging outlets in every apartment. If you park your vehicle at home and dont see an outlet you’re not going to consider getting an EV. Even if they were to be standard it’s unlikely you’ll still consider one if you are not in the market buying one.

The government, EV enthusiasts and environmentalists all would like to force people to buy one and not let the free market decide and if it was total free market, electric vehicles wouldn’t stand a chance which is why the extreme push for them. That wont work either, not unless EVs exceed everything a gasoline vehicle can and its unlikely that will happen until the 2040s and even then there at least will be another 20 years before they would dominate roads. Unless of course we allow politicians to get in the way of allowing people to drive gas cars freely and tax free. Bottom line is the future is bleak if people get their way and force everyone onto EVs.

For me, Honda and Toyota gas vehicles are proven. They’re not broken and last forever on the orginal drivetrain (usually, anyways) so I dont see any need to replace them with batteries.

Line For Tesla Supercharger Stretches Beyond Belief

Imagine having to spend an hour waiting to gas up your vehicle. It takes 3 minutes to refuel a gasoline tank while it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to almost 12 hours to charge an EV or electric vehicle back up. Now imagine having to wait in a line for an electric vehicle that has a queue of 10 vehicles or more. From the line there was at least 50 vehicles. They would be waiting at least for 5 hours.

Some say they need more chargers, except.. supposedly they can charge at home. Well it’s a problem if you are not at home or worse yet there’s no way to charge at home. Most EV enthusiasts have a garage or somewhere to charge at home. However, most do not have the ability to charge at home. Mostly apartments or condos and even some homes dont have a spot where they can hook up to an outlet.

As it stands the infrastructure wont support EVs. They can put charging stations around but it still takes 30 minutes or longer to charge. You will still have lines unless a mass quantity of charging stations were to be built. That may not be cheap to do either. The charge time is just too long and besides the cold draining the battery EVs are just not practical for many.

However EV enthusiasts, politicians and environmentalists dont seem to care that the negatives outweighs the positive of EV use. They’re pushing EVs too early and it’s going to lead to an early failure. Not that I don’t mind it failing but the fact is EVs are not going to make it. Not when people are being forced into buying one.

To top it off the forced EV adoption is costing jobs to make regular gas vehicles. Then again the auto sales are slumping in general. I don’t know about you but EVs are not practical for the most part and I don’t even want one.

EVs or electric vehicles has only been successful to the EV fanatics for the past decade, but already people are trying to push them onto everyone and wanting to end the gasoline engine one way or another, most likely banning them from being on the roads.

Some others are doing away with all vehicles while others are constantly saying EVs will take over the automotive industry. But the truth is no one really wants them. Dealerships are keeping gas vehicles in the front and the little EV collection they got is in the back and the vehicles are never charged. Which of course would be happening everywhere if it wasn’t always a topic of conversation in the social media. Car magazines are always talking about new EV vehicles even though people don’t want to hear about them. And really Tesla boasts about faster acceleration times and little maintenance.

One thing that isn’t talked about is how much of a pain it is to actually own one. First off they’re terrible in the cold, especially if you don’t have a garage. The solution, turn down the heat. That doesnt help those who want to blast the heat to stay toasty in subzero temps.

The other would be, you only have to drive 20 miles, grab a bite to eat while your car is charging. Oh so the money you save on gas will go to a $15 meal. You are not saving anything there when you could be somewhere else not spending your hard earned cash or would rather spend your money on an Amazon item. Whatever the case is, electric cars are trash in the cold. Efficiency in gas cars is only bad when the vehicle is cold but they warm up in 10 minutes essentially returning your efficiency.

Long recharge times. The solution, charge it at home. Does no good when you don’t have anywhere to plug it in. Somehow EV enthusiasts think that everyone has a garage or something magical to recharge their vehicle while parked on the street. One guy with a Tesla ran out of battery power and recharged his car in someone’s outdoor power outlet. If that’s not enough… you got someone driving a gas car pulling a diesel generator just to recharge your EV. The future is stupid. Because at some point you’ll have a power outage and have nowhere to charge your EV. Case in point California pressures people into EVs then cuts the power. At least gas stations have backup generators. For some reason the EV crowd doesn’t know that one either.

Also they either can’t keep up with battery production or they dont have enough materials to create enough of the batteries. Either way, the price won’t ever go down. Not at least until, if they come out with another battery type or whatever and that will be artificially priced high for quite some time.

Now i get we can’t keep using gasoline because at some point we’ll run out and having cleaner air is something we could use and need but gasoline cars isnt an issue right now and we got plenty of gas to go around.

But the bottom line is that electric vehicles won’t be a viable replacement to gasoline for at least several decades. By 2050 there may be other options that hasn’t been considered or invented yet. To ban gasoline vehicles you are going to disrupt the economy in a bad way where it may have trouble recovering from. Already Audi has plans to cut 7,000 workers all in the name of producing more EVs when EVs are only a minor market. They’re expecting a surge of people to buy EVs even though sales has dropped both in the US and China. It’ll most likely stagnate and drop as more people are finding out that their EV resale value drops considerably. They’re going to think twice before buying a new EV and most likely will buy a gas vehicle.

No one wants a used EV when they have no clue if they’ll have to replace their $7,500+ battery if they will buy one. Another words the EV market will remain secluded to the EV enthusiasts. And with many major automakers spending tons of money on EV production its going to be an EV disaster that will most likely be really bad. At least many hope it will fail. Since people like me refuse to buy one if that’s all the automaker will offer the vehicle sales will tumble because nobody has time to wait for their vehicle to recharge, nor will they remember to plug it in at home if they got the capability not to mention you’ll most likely be plugging into a dirty electric grid and still be polluting.

I’d prefer to wait for a truly better car technology in which still takes decades of results for viability.

 

In one of my older posts, Nickel Metal Hydride batteries and chargers! I mentioned about some good rechargeable batteries and chargers. I have noticed that there’s still stores packed with alkalines. Some places like Amazon you could buy them in bulk for up to 5,000 batteries! That’s a lot of batteries!

Now I get why some people still use throwaway batteries, they get lost, stolen or you forget about them and you cant charge them anymore. Is that really that big of a concern though these days though?

Some guys happen to like the rechargeables though…

I remember when I first got into using rechargeable Ni-Cads they had some AAs that I used in a walkman for a period of time. I got maybe a year or 2 out of those batteries before they stopped working correctly but they managed to save me some money. I don’t really recall seeing replacements, as I thought they just came with the charger and you’d have to buy another charger to get the batteries so my collection of rechargeables were quite low.

Yes, over time they did stop working right and I went back to alkalines for a period and then I got some new Rayovac Nickel-Metal Hydride cells that worked quite well for awhile anyways. I got maybe 3 or 4 years out of those before they stopped working so I just quit using those. Got a friend into them as well since we both liked to listen to the same music. But again for awhile i went back to alkalines but I didnt really use them that often. It was until in 2005 I started using them again since Duracell and Energizer had them and they even sold the batteries separately. I still have working AAA Energizers and AA Duracells that gets used in string lights or those Duracell LED flashlights. I use a few in my noice canceling headphones still. And these are the batteries that lose their charge over a course of a month or 2. If they dont get used much they wont work as well either.

When those batteries were not working in a USB charging device I decided to check out what they had and found Eneloops. I also got into using more sophisticated chargers such as the Power Ex C9000 mentioned in the other blog, I posted in the beginning of this article. Because, well I like to get what I can out of these batteries.

The simplest and cheapest way to get into recharge AAs and AAAs is to buy the Panasonic/Eneloop charger that comes with 4 AA batteries. Find a device you use most often and use the Eneloop batteries right out of the package and you’ll see they work like regular alkalines (unless your device is weird and requires the higher voltage) when you need to recharge them keep a set of alkalines handy or if it’s a 2 AA or 1 AA you can cycle out the 4 AA Eneloops you have. This is a great way of starting out and you’ll see the savings within 4 or 5 recharge cycles.  I’m going to list a few problems people might have with rechargeables..

1. They’re more expensive than alkalines.

Yes they are, but after 2-6 cycles depending on what brand of batteries you get you might see savings sooner. Keep using them and you’ll see the benefits.

2. They don’t last as long and they won’t charge.

Most alkaline AA cells have over 3,000mAh but most of the time you can only get half that amount. It depends on your device but it may cut off before you use up all the energy out of your rechargeables. Don’t give up if it doesnt work well in one of your devices. That may require a higher voltage where your rechargeable batteries may not function as well. More devices these days are more rechargeable friendly and can operate on that 1.2v battery. You have to try a different device. Most flashlights will work on rechargeable batteries. That’s the easy way of seeing if your batteries are faulty.

Additionally you can always pick up a multimeter. If its 1.23v or higher you should be ok. If it charges normally in your Panasonic/Eneloop charger then it passed the internal resistance check and should be working well. If you are using a different charger than the ones I’ve mentioned there is no guarantee they’ll charge your batteries adequately.

If they appear to be charged and wont work well in your device, always try a different device such as a flashlight. Get a Fenix, Coast or Maglite. I’ve used rechargeables in those lights and they work well. The 1 AA or AAA lights are good to where you can check the batteries individually. A multimeter however is the best way to check voltage. Also check the contacts. If you are using a battery where the wrapper is blocking the negative terminals on some devices they wont work. I never seen any issues using Eneloops though.

Also, sometimes you just end up with a bad batch of batteries. It happens, sometimes the charger isn’t working correctly. You will have to contact the manufacturer or just get it exchanged where you bought them. Just make sure not to tell them you’re using a different charger. Don’t mention the charger you are using. If they ask for the model number, tell them you don’t have it with you, you are calling from work or you are out somewhere. If you are buying Eneloops and have the charger then it’s as easy as getting the batteries replaced.

3. My family tosses these rechargeable batteries in the garbage.

Its inevitable. They’re AA or AAA batteries. Some people are used to toss these batteries into the garbage. The easiest way is to stop tossing out alkalines and get a bin to put them in. If your family does this then chances are they’ll do the same for rechargeables. If not, leaving notes on the devices or by the trash cans to not toss out batteries may be needed. If that doesn’t work then you’ll simply have to take the batteries out period and they’ll have to ask to use them. At least they’ll be charged ready to go.

Here are some other tips to get you started.

1. Avoid buying large quantities of rechargeables for your first time. There isnt any need to replace all 60 of your devices with rechargeables. There is the problem of alkalines ruining devices so if this is a common problem for you, buy a set of these EBL batteries.

They are a little too much for beginners and they may not work as good for you as they do for me but there are positive reviews for these batteries and I haven’t ran into many issues with them. The AAAs are a better deal where you could use them in an AAA to AA adapter. They sell those on Amazon as well. The batteries should work fine in the Panasonic/Eneloop charger as well. No need to charge them for first usage either. Just stick them in your devices and use them. One thing to note, the low drain devices such as a clock or tv remote they wont get much use. So to avoid premature death I suggest they get charged at least once every 6 months but you can do every 3 months. Just swap them out for another set.

They seem to be low self discharge but I’d buy the lower capacity cells just to be sure. Eventually though I suggest to replace every device with Eneloops.

2. No need to drain them fully before recharging. Just dont recharge them constantly. You can use them until the device starts showing signs of the battery dying or as I mentioned earlier, every 3-6 months. Also once they do show signs of being near death, quit using them until they are recharged again. Excessive draining of the cells can cause a waste of cycle usage and the cells can reverse charge or overdrain which can make the batteries permanently weak and potentially die.

3. The only reason for using higher capacity cells is for additional run time. If it’s not critical to get an extra 5 minutes of run time get the lower capacity cells. 1900mAh AA Eneloop batteries and the 750mAh AAA Eneloops are just fine for any device. You get more charge cycles and less battery waste.

4. Rechargeable nickel metal batteries can be recycled at most any place. Check your department or hardware stores. I have noticed its more difficult to recycle alkalines then rechargeables, as I’ve seen they have recycling in some stores. Usually I toss out the non working batteries in a container but I dont have many dead rechargeables yet.

Overall I hope this will encourage people to buy rechargeables again, if not for the environment but for your wallet and hopefully less stores will be selling 60 alkaline battery packs. I know some like businesses may be hard set in using alkalines, I know my job uses them but I put rechargeables in my lights so I dont use their alkalines. I’ve had people say that I dont need to use mine and I should use the company’s batteries but well, my light, my rules..  I dont use alkalines anymore. Theres no point when it costs less than a penny to recharge a pair of AA batteries.

Also, I forgot to add here are the best rechargeables you might get including some that are ok. In both AA and AAA size.

Tenergy is in the middle of the road as I haven’t tried their AA/AAA cells but I got 2 9V cells with their charger that so far has been running strong.
EBL, Goal Zero, Sunlabz, Rayovac, and some other brands I don’t have names for currently. Avoid AA batteries that claim higher than 2900mAh capacity and AAA higher than 1100mAh capacity. I haven’t tested the AAA EBLs 1100 mAh cells but the AA 2800mAh cells they have got came in around 2600mAh I think. I dont recall.

The La Crosse cells are terrible and haven’t been upgraded from the older high self discharge Nickel Metal batteries. I currently have a set of AAs and AAAs that come with their BC-1000 charger, they are ok but I wouldn’t buy them regularly. Avoid Enercell and RadioShack batteries, they don’t last long in storage.

Maha/Power Ex chargers tend to be the best or the Panasonic/Eneloop charger. La Crosse chargers are not bad but do not have the internal resistance check that the Eneloop or Power Ex C9000 charger has. I have not tried any other charger and the Sky RC 3000 charger doesn’t keep the batteries secure enough for me.

Illinois recently passed a law making schools teach LGBT history. As if there was much history to begin with LGBT which I believe came around in the 70s or 80s, before that time homosexuality has been widely rejected and even illegal so they were placed in mental asylums. Now I do know of the horrific experiments being done to the mentally ill which was barbaric to say the least. So I’d like to think what we now call psychiatric hospitals (or institutions) have gotten much better.

Its unclear how being homosexual was no longer illegal let alone no longer a mental illness but it happened and it can only be speculated as someone paid some experts to be convinced to let them go. Supposedly there was an LGBT or active gay movement that started in the 1940s, but others say they started in the late 1980s.

Its difficult to say when the LGBT began but it could have been the gay active movement that caused homosexuality to become legalized and very rarely there was ever transgenders. Of course it wouldn’t be surprising that they did this in secret. They knew transgenders would never be accepted and they were first discovered in the 1940s but breast enhancements didn’t start until the 60s. So transgenders were often called cross dressers. They looked nothing like what their actual gender was, most often they were easily spotted and easily scared off from continuing the crossdressing. Theres also drag queens but its unclear whether they were the same as crossdressers. Bottom line these people were the first ‘transgenders’. They couldn’t have surgeries or drugs and kids were not being treated as being a transgender.

However the LGBT is hard pushing the agenda that kids are transgender and should be given drugs to stop puberty. This sort of thing should be illegal and abolished. Doctors are too quick in injecting poison into our children and mess up their thinking of things.

Instead of telling kids to accept their bodies for what they are and accept their assigned gender they’re being told, do what you feel like. As early as 3 years old a child who doesnt know how to tie his own shoes is being encouraged to live out their fantasy of being the incorrect or opposite assigned gender.

So how could transgender kids have existed so long before the drugs were even given? How is it no reports of kids being suicidal because they weren’t allowed to live out the gender they think they are? Its because it wasnt in their way of thinking. Other people placed this image into their heads and think, “if this person can do that then so can i.” Whether or not gender dysphoria is real, so called experts don’t care. They just say let the kid decide. A 3 year old child who can’t decide what to eat or wear is making a life altering decision that doesn’t just impact them physically with the hormone blocker drugs, it impacts them emotionally. When it comes to puberty and when a boy wants to be a girl but may like boys or girls (depending upon how much of their fantasy plays into what sex they desire) their life is going to be hell because neither sex wants to date someone who is transgender. Not to mention what kind of impact it’ll have on their peers especially if they decide to detransition. Either way transgenderism is making something simple into something extremely complicated. You are taking a perfectly healthy boy or man and trying to convert them into a girl or woman. Scientifically and spiritually, that is just wrong. A male having feelings of being a woman or a female doesn’t mean they are a woman/female. This is why these LGBT classes are unnecessary. This is why the state and people in general need to stay out of families noses. If they dont want their kids to turn out to be transgender then let them do it. Give them the resources to make that happen because if the kid ends up frustrated or suicidal it will be hell because the LGBT is making it impossible to let parents decide so they can try to force people to accept them. Because people won’t accept transgenders willingly, so they got to force people to accept them. This is why there is transgender kids, LGBT history class, transgender books for kids, and drag queen library recruitment centers. They deny that one because they don’t want to be seen as devious, evil people trying to convert parents kids. Yet if one kid claims to be transgender, other kids will follow regardless if they really feel that way.

This is why the transgender movement is out of control and really needs to be stopped.

There is a group called MassResistance, check them out if you are tired of transgender ideology being pushed onto children and pushed in society’s faces. Transgenders are mentally ill and there are plenty of transgenders who are either in prison or act crazy in public and a nuisance to society. No matter what someone tells you the LGBT is pushing lies onto the public and denying it. They know they are lies but then again it’s all brainwashing nonsense. Pull your kids out of public schools and take them to a Christian school that hasn’t abandoned their morals.

Just when you think we made strides in reducing racism in this country this one guy decided to act on his racism in a violent way. The shooter, Patrick Crusius clearly showed his racism against Mexican people.

You can’t believe how much this guy angers me. I got a few Mexican friends who has to deal with racism at one time or another. Its generally rare but its hurtful when people act this way towards Mexicans or anyone else in general. A ton of reports of Mexicans being harassed, at gas stations, restaurants, in stores and on the streets. Some people blame Trump but some of these racist people do support Trump.

Really it’s the people who are in need of help for the fact they can’t see the fact they are immigrants too. America is founded by immigrants and what people do when act racist they make it sound like there is something wrong with a certain group which turns into more hate. We need to set an example that Mexicans and any other race is welcomed in America because this is what America is. Its more than just a country with freedoms. It’s a country with many different races and cultures and everyone should be welcome. People have either forgotten or they simply do not understand what America is. America isnt all just white people. People need to understand this and let go of any hate. Unfortunately this may not be as easy as it seems and we’ll end up with another massacre because there is a lot of hateful people in this world. Americans and America in general needs many prayers.

I know as Christians we are to forgive and forget but what this shooter did, I find unforgivable what he did.

Yes I had to do a couple of eye rolls from Janeway and even a double facepalm Picard from Star Trek. This is what we’re reduced to, the government deciding what words we should use. We have so many other problems in the world such as homelessness, hunger, poverty and greed. There is a high cost of living and the pay stays the same and oh ridiculously high taxes. Oh the minimum wage is going up.. but your normal wages stay the same. We got so much hatred and the ignoring of mental health. Well the LGBT being here is what happens when we ignore mental illness. I may have mentioned in a previous blog post but I’ll say it again, we need to end this insanity. And no not everyone from the LGBT is mentally insane, they’re just brainwashed by the mentally insane. It’s sad they believe it too. We are also told that we need to listen to the professionals. Well it’s the professionals who let them out in the first place without understanding the repercussions. Did they really know these people would be outcasts to society and subjected to violence, suicide and murder? Or that they would obsessively say that males are women and society is supposed to adopt the pronouns that they use.

This LGBT agenda has gone from out of control to completely insane. We went from people being attracted to the same sex to males being women, to kids being transgender and to having to be forced to use pronouns. Oh then there are those who don’t identify as male or female and those who feel like a female one day and a male the next. And thousands of different genders

Ugh.. and guess who’s behind this, the professionals and the mentally insane. Then you got businesses and celebrities behind this such as George Takei from the original Star Trek series, which I believe is also gay. I was ok with that until he became an activist or he was like that and it wasn’t very public, well otherwise he’d already be in a mental hospital instead of being on the original 60s TV show. Either way I can separate his character in the science fiction show from who he is. But that doesnt change the fact these activists are completely insane. Not all of them are. George is pretty vocal at times but he’s generally a good person and doesnt force his pride like some people do. Though he does show pride for being LGBT.

But.. we went downhill.. and I’m wondering if it’s the ambitious nature of closeted people who allowed the LGBT out of mental asylums. If you are rich you can make anything happen and its possible someone like George Takei who had a lot of money allow LGBT people out of mental asylums.

As for the pronoun agenda from the LGBT, well.. it’s a violation of the freedom of speech. If I want to call my brother a brother and not some wishy washy words like siblings I’m going to do that. I doubt the pronoun police will be there to arrest me but it’ll be interesting how this unfolds. Whether people will be fined for saying certain words or whatever this is the end of our civilization and we know it.

I’m praying for a turnaround for these events or the end of us.. at least Noah, flood levels that we need to take our knowledge of today, put it on a deep space vessel (well we need to invent one) and move to a new planet where we can build a proper, logical society.

Hey, maybe if people are successful with the raid of Area 51 we could find a few spacecrafts and use those. (Well.. if they exist lol)
